Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does the event cost?
A: Money Power Day is free and open to anyone in the Baltimore metro area.  All of the services are free, but some require certain income eligibility.

 
Q: Do I need to register for Money Power Day?
A: No registration is required to attend Money Power Day.  For free tax preparation, please call 410-234-2804 to schedule an appointment.  To register for an appointment with a pro bono counselor at the foreclosure clinic, call 443-692-9420.  All other services are first come, first serve, and you can sign up for them on Money Power Day.

 
Q: Can I bring my children?
A: YES!  We love kids at Money Power Day. Of course you will have to watch your children, but there are all kinds of financially focused and very fun activities for kids:
  • Workshops for children.
  • Port Discovery’s the Money Game
  • And other activities for youth up to 17 years old.

 

Q: How do I sign up for tax preparation?
A: Please call 410-234-2804 to schedule a tax appointment at Money Power Day.

 
Q: How do I sign up for credit counseling sessions?
A: All services are first come, first serve and you can make a day-of appointment where the credit counselors are located.

 
Q: What should I bring to the event?
A: If you are going to get your taxes prepared, please make sure to bring the following information:
  • A social security card for each family member on the return
  • W-2 forms for *all* jobs worked in 2008
  • Childcare provider name, address, and tax ID number
  • All banking account information to direct deposit your refund
  • Any document or information that you have received from the IRS
  • All 1099 forms for other income, if any
  • Any other tax related documents you have received
  • Every adult on your return must come to sign the return
     If you are going to the foreclosure clinic, please make sure to bring the following information:
  • All paperwork related to current and former mortgages (including loan application, settlement paperwork and lender statements
  • All foreclosure notices or threats of foreclosure received
  • Information about monthly household budget (income/expenses)
  • To receive a free legal consult, participants must call Consumer Credit Counseling Services at 877-316-6716 after February 22 to receive housing counseling prior to the workshop
  • Download the intake form to fill out and bring on 3/13/10
