Financial Opportunity Corps VISTA
The Baltimore CASH (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) Campaign seeks two Financial Opportunity Corps VISTA members. VISTA, an Americorps program, represents a 12 month commitment to community service. Financial Opportunity Corps VISTAs will oversee and grow the Financial Coaching program using curriculum designed to benefit low and moderate income families. Financial Coaching aims to support families as they strive to reach diverse financial goals and build assets, to achieve greater financial security. Program and outreach will take place in multiple settings including Baltimore CASH’s free tax preparation sites and other non-profit partner locations throughout Baltimore City.
VISTAs will participate in multiple trainings and a VISTA orientation. National training will include in-person sessions on Financial Coaching, requiring out-of-state travel. Baltimore VISTAs will be part of a larger national Financial Opportunity Corps of 9 members.
VISTAs will develop local financial coaching programs using provided curriculum and managing group classes, assist with a yearly financial opportunity resource fair, develop key partnerships, and conduct marketing/outreach of the program. Integration of efforts with local VITA Tax Preparation Sites or other economic opportunity programming recruitment is needed. VISTAs will recruit volunteers and volunteer leaders, including community resident leaders as well as conduct outreach to engage local community members to train local community volunteers.
VISTAs will train volunteers and volunteer leaders, including residents to provide financial coaching sustainability, finalize the processes and systems to ensure long-term sustainability of the coaching program and equip local volunteers to lead program beyond duration of VISTA placement. This Financial Opportunity Corps position will establish or work with an existing advisory council consisting of service beneficiaries to guide the program’s approach, outreach efforts, and supplemental programs Performance Measurement and Evaluation. They will assess and track relevant data – outputs and outcomes, create a monthly output report and success story and submit these to Points of Light. Quarterly, VISTAs will report to Points of Light National Service Identity. VISTAs also submit at least one blog post and engage in National Days of Service including MLK Day of Service and National AmeriCorps Week.
Financial Opportunity Corps VISTAs will further develop the existing financial coaching program to provide long-term and episodic support to under-resourced communities, increasing financial knowledge and confidence within the communities. VISTAs will recruit and train traditional, resident and skills based volunteers to serve as financial coaches to low and moderate income individuals and families. VISTA will support both coaching provision and long-term program sustainability. Two VISTAs will serve with the Baltimore CASH Campaign to implement the financial coaching program.
Childcare assistance if eligible, Training, Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend, Education award upon successful completion of service, Health Coverage, Relocation Allowance, Living Allowance. All Baltimore VISTAs receive a $65 monthly transportation stipend. An additional housing stipend is also available if needed.
Position is a one year term of service which begins on August 22, 2014 and ends August 21, 2015. Prohibits paid work outside of the sponsoring agency at any time.
